Happy New Year

I know I keep saying I will update my blog more but I've been so busy! Max, Charlie, And Spice were all adopted into loving families and a bunch of horses headed to foster homes for the winter months.

We had a wonderful holiday season at Project Sage, the barn was packed with volunteers on Christmas and new years! Such a relieve for me having the help!

Today I took a ride to PA to stock up on grain for the month and visit all the horses that we board there. You can really feel the winter in PA, I guess Long Island has been spoiling us with nice weather the past few weeks, hopefully it stays this way so we can keep the warm weather!

For everyone that has had the honor of meeting our oldest resident, Apache, he's doing much better after being under the weather for a few days. After blood work and numerous vet visits we found no issues so he's hanging in there. I have to say he's pretty frisky for an old guy, I've been giving him extra treats and the past few days he's been frisking me for cookies, guess he knows I'm a sucker and always have them in my pockets. My logic is that he deserves tons of cookies, he was a police horse then faced some serious neglect. He worked hard and never really enjoyed a retirement like most cops, so I'm giving him the best retirement I possibly can. He has a young girl at the barn, Brianna, who is the light of his life. I swear that kid keeps that old horse going, he lights up when she walks into the barn. Kids and horses, it's seriously magical. Every horse deserves to be loved by a little girl at one point in their life, Apache just had to wait to his older years to find his little girl. I guess that's when he needed her the most. He's one lucky horse because Brianna is one heck of a kid, she devotes her weekends to the rescue, every moment she can spend there she does. She is like a mini me, I'm glad to be able to teach her how to do things so she can grow up to be just as knowledgable as I have become. I hope she sticks with horses, she really has the knack for it. Her mom is a vet tech and has given countless hours to helping me and spending time pampering Apache. I'm blessed to have families like Brianna and her mom to help me.

Well I think that's it for now, stay warm everyone and hug your horses
